Geez! I was fully prepared to give this one a full five stars and sing it's praises with my highest recommendation until I got to the last third of the book, when H.G. Wells decided to muck up a good thing by being the most "Wellsian" he could be. Wells is one of those writers that I simultaneously love and hate.

There is no questioning the man's sheer genius.

For most of this novel, Wells had crafted a beautifully touching, tastefully hilarious, infinitely quotable, and delightfully sweet drama between a daughter and her daddy.
