Soli Jehangir Sorabjee, AM (9 March &#;&#; 30 April ) was an Indian jurist who served as Attorney-General for India from to , and again from to In , he received the Padma Vibhushan for his defence of the freedom of expression and the protection of human rights.^[1][2]

Early life

Soli Jehangir Sorabjee was born on 9 March in Bombay to a Parsi family.^[3][4] He studied at Bharda New High School, Mumbai and St.

Xavier's College, Mumbai and Government Law College, Mumbai, and was admitted to the bar in ^[5] At Government Law College, he was awarded the Kinloch Forbes Gold Medal in Roman Law and Jurisprudence ().^[6]

Career

In , Sorabjee was designated a senior advocate of the Bombay High Court.

He served as Solicitor-General of India from to He was appointed Attorney-General for India on 9 December up to 2 December , and then again on 7 April , a post he held until ^[2]
